John Barrowman & The Krankies make a triumphant return
to Glasgow’s biggest pantomime at the SECC!
Glasgow’s SECC today announced that John Barrowman will return to the Clyde Auditorium this Christmas to star in Dick McWhittington. John will be joined by The Krankies who will play Councillor Krankie and Jimmy Krankie.
This will be the fourth SECC pantomime season for Glasgow-born John Barrowman. John is a household name, having starred in Torchwood (BBC), Doctor Who (BBC) as Captain Jack Harkness, Arrow (CW Network & Sky One) and having hosted the primetime BBC TV show Tonight’s The Night. On the big screen, John has appeared as the Lead Tenor in The Producers, as Jack in the Cole Porter biopic De-Lovely and starred in cult classic Megalodon: Shark Attack 3.
John’s impressive stage career has seen him in starring roles in West End musicals including Anything Goes, Matador, Miss Saigon, The Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Boulevard, Anything Goes and La Cage Aux Folles.
Glasgow favourites The Krankies rose to fame after their big-break appearing at the 1978 Royal Variety Show. Their catchphrase ‘Fandabidozi’ found its way into the homes of a generation of children in the 1980s in the flagship BBC Children’s TV shows Crackerjack and Krankie Club. In 2012 The Krankies were awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Great Scot Awards.
Jonathan Kiley, executive producer of Dick McWhittington said “We’re delighted that John Barrowman and The Krankies are returning to Glasgow this Christmas. Audiences who have seen the on-stage chemistry of this trio in recent years will know that an unmissable treat is in store. Right now we’re working on a fabulous new script packed with comedy to give a traditional pantomime story a very Scottish flavour in our new production, Dick McWhittington.”
Allan Snedden, head of concert and event sales at the SECC commented “Four years in and we’re still raring to go! We always look forward to welcoming Qdos, John Barrowman and The Krankies back to the venue and each year is more exciting than the last. I have no doubt that Dick McWhittington will be a spectacular show.”
This year’s pantomime is, once again, produced by Qdos Entertainment, the world’s biggest pantomime producer who will stage 24 pantomimes across the UK this Christmas. Dick McWhittington will be packed with comedy, amazing 3D effects, fabulous costumes and lots of audience participation.
Dick McWhittington replaces the previously advertised Robin Hood. Existing ticketholders will be contacted by the SECC.
Dick McWhittington runs from Sat 14 December 2013 to Sun 5 January 2014. Tickets cost from £13.00 and available now from www.TICKETSOUP.com or telephone 0844 395 4000
