John Barrowman and The Krankies to star in the most magical pantomime of them all, Cinderella
The most magical and popular pantomime title of them all – Cinderella – will grace the stage of the SECC Clyde Auditorium this Christmas.
International television, film and recording star John Barrowman will lead the cast in as the loveable and cheeky Buttons in the production which also stars Scottish panto stalwarts and comedy double-act The Krankies, with Jimmy Krankie playing Button’s brother ‘Zip’ and Ian Krankie as Baron Hardup!
John Barrowman leads the cast in the Clyde Auditorium pantomime for the fifth consecutive year. John’s return follows his acclaimed performances, most recently as Dick McWhittington last Christmas. Since appearing in pantomime John's year has already been busy, presenting Superstar Dogs and filming John Barrowman's Pet Hospital (filmed at Glasgow University's School of Veterinary Hospital) both for Channel 4. John returns to the cast of Arrow for the CW Network in the USA, is currently recording his new album which is due out in the summer, and will be back in Glasgow later in the Spring filming a new series of his BBC1 game show Pressure Pad.
John said, “For the fifth year running we're back in Glasgow! I'm so excited to be back with Janette and Ian Krankie in our panto home, and to be tackling the role of Buttons in Cinderella. So come on girls, bring your glass slipper and find your Prince!”
The Krankies  are known to a generation for their popular 80s children’s TV shows including Crackerjack and The Krankies Klub, as well as for their catchphrase ‘Fan-Dabi-Dozi’! Earlier this year Janette was honoured with an award for fifty years in show business at The Scottish Showbusiness Benevolent Fund Showbiz Ball.
Jonathan Kiley, executive producer of Cinderella said “Cinderella is the most magical and popular of all panto titles and gives us the chance to bring more glitter and sparkle to the Clyde Auditorium than ever before! We have already started creating a brand-new script and working on some unique special effects for Cinderella in Glasgow this year, which will have lots of local humour, intertwined with the charming fairytale.”
Allan Snedden, Head of Concert and Events, SECC said: “We’re delighted to welcome John, the Krankies and cast for a fifth time to the Clyde Auditorium and look forward to another magnificent run later this year.”Â
Cinderella replaces the previously advertised Robin Hood and runs from Saturday 13 December 2014 to Sunday 4 January 2015. For tickets and information visit www.ticketsoup.com or call 0844 395 4000. An early booking offer of £5 off top price tickets has been extended until the end of April to coincide with the title change.
Glasgow’s X-Factor Star Melanie Masson joins the cast of Cinderella at the SECC Clyde Auditorium
Glasgow SECC has announced X Factor star and singing sensation Melanie Masson is to join the cast of this year’s family pantomime, Cinderella, as Fairy Godmother. Melanie will star alongside John Barrowman and The Krankies.
Melanie became a household name as one of four contestants to be mentored by Gary Barlow in the 2012 season of X Factor after stunning the public and judges with her audition rendition of Janis Joplin’s Cry Baby.
Melanie is no stranger to the stage having trained at Queen Margaret College of Music and Drama in Edinburgh, and performed in the West End and on national tour in production including The Rise and Fall of Little Voice in the title role of LV, Jailhouse Rock The Musical, Peggy Sue Got Married, What A Feeling, Hold Tight It’s 60s Night and at the Edinburgh Festival as Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Maria in Twelfth Night.
Melanie was recently nominated for a Capital FM/Scottish Variety Award for best newcomer and is currently working on her first solo album.
Cinderella is produced by Qdos Entertainment, the world’s largest pantomime producer, the company behind the critically-acclaimed pantomimes staged at the SECC over the past four years.
Executive Producer of Cinderella Jonathan Kiley said “As anyone who followed Melanie’s performances in X Factor will know she has a powerhouse voice which is absolutely first-class and a loving warm personality ideally suited to the role of Fairy Godmother. I’m absolutely thrilled that she has agreed to join us in her home City in Glasgow’s biggest pantomime”.
Allan Snedden, Head of Concert & Event Sales added: “It’s fantastic to be adding another Scot to the bill this year. Melanie certainly won over The X Factor crowds and I’ve no doubt she’ll do the same with our spirited Glasgow audience – we are delighted to welcome her to the stage!”
Cinderella at the SECC Clyde Auditorium runs from Saturday 13 December to Sunday 4 January 2015. Tickets are available from www.ticketsoup.com and 0844 395 4000.
