Fairy tale dreams have come true for one lucky theatre fan who has scooped a show stopping prize after being revealed as the holder of the one millionth ticket for the hugely popular Theatre Royal pantomime.
Panto favourite Danny Adams revealed that the millionth ticket holder was amongst the audience at Saturday’s matinee performance of Cinderella before going on to announce that delighted six year old Alfie Lowes from Rowlands Gill was to receive a lifetime ticket for the much-loved Theatre Royal pantomime so that he and a guest will be able to come along and enjoy the spectacular festive event each and every year.
Alfie won the prize having sat in the lucky millionth ticket seat after his mum Jane snapped up tickets to come and see this year’s record-breaking pantomime Cinderella which plays until 15 Jan ’17 and sees audience favourites Danny Adams, Clive Webb and Chris Hayward return to the Theatre Royal in yet another must-see show.
She said: “Alfie has been coming to see the pantomime every year since he was 3 years old – he absolutely loves everything about the theatre and has always wanted to get up on the stage. We had friends coming to visit from Dublin so decided to book tickets to see Cinderella on Saturday as a treat so for Alfie to be named as the millionth ticket holder makes it extra special.”
Cinderella, which also sees children’s television actress Laura Evans in the title role and local favourites Steve Arnott and Pete Peverley as the outrageous Ugly Sisters, has been wowing audiences thanks to its hilarious slapstick routines, special effects, family-friendly comedy, enchanting score, stunning sets, dazzling costumes, and that most memorable pantomime moment when Cinderella is transported to the Prince’s Ball with the help of a pumpkin, some mice and a generous sprinkle of Fairy Godmother magic!
Chief Executive Philip Bernays said: “Danny and Clive have been pulling the crowds in for our tremendous pantomime for the last 12 years and are real favourites with the audience. Alongside Chris and his kaleidoscopic wardrobe, Steve and Pete, an amazing cast, special effects provided by The Twins FX, spectacular sets, magnificent dance routines and musical scores which are all brought together by Newcastle’s own Michael Harrison, they have thrilled and delighted people of all ages who come back year after year.
“To hit the landmark of selling our one millionth pantomime ticket, since they began, during this year’s run is a fantastic achievement and we are looking forward to welcoming Alfie to come and enjoy all the fun of our festive spectacular with us for many more years to come.”
Alfie is already looking forward to seeing Danny, Clive and Chris again when they return for the Theatre Royal’s 2017/18 pantomime which is Peter Pan. Mum Jane added: “The pantomime at the Theatre Royal is one of the highlights of the season and it’s wonderful to know that Alfie will be able to enjoy this special show each and every year - hopefully he will choose to share the prize with me so I can come along too!”
Cinderella appears at Newcastle Theatre Royal until Sun 15 January 2017 and next year’s pantomime, Peter Pan, will play Tue 28 Nov ’17 – Sun 21 Jan ’18.
