Having studied dance from the age of six Brendan Cole’s professional career saw him rise to the top of both Ballroom and Latin American dance scenes where he ranked within the top 12 in the world thanks to his deft dance skills and unquestionable stage presence. As a pro-dancer on Britain’s biggest television show Strictly Come Dancing Brendan rose to fame. He was the first pro-dancer to ever win the coveted Strictly trophy in the show’s first series, and also judged New Zealand’s equivalent of the show, Dancing with the Stars for four years.
Brendan went on to produce numerous UK tours, including his dance, music and chat shows Live & Unjudged, Licence to Thrill and A Night to Remember and recently concluded his tour All Night Long which wowed audiences and critics alike and played the New Victoria Theatre last year. Brendan has also appeared on many different shows including being on the judging panel of Britain’s Next Top Model, ITV’s Love Island and was a contestant on Just the Two Of Us for the BBC which saw him team up with Beverley Knight and come second in the popular singing competition. Last year he made his pantomime debut for producers Qdos Entertainment, playing the Henchman in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This year he will be playing the Genie of the Ring in Aladdin.
Bobby Davro is well-known for his illustrious television career which has seen him present his own series Bobby Davro on the Box, Bobby’s Sketch Pad, TV Weekly, Public Enemy Number One, Rock With Laughter and Run the Risk, and host 65 episodes of Winner Takes All. He has also appeared in EastEnders playing the loveable rogue Vinnie Monks, donned skates on Dancing on Ice, and came fourth in Celebrity Big Brother for Channel 5. No stranger to pantomime Bobby has delighted theatre audiences year after year as one of panto-land’s most sought-after comedians and will be playing Wishee Washee.
CBBC star Mischa Eckersley joins them as Princess Jasmine. Having trained at the Sylvia Young Theatre School the singer, dancer and actress rose to fame as Polly in 4 O’Clock Club, where she has been a series regular since 2017. David Phipps-Davis will star as Widow Twankey, having forged a highly successful stage career in opera, including leading roles in Turandot, Tosca and La traviata, and appearing in musical theatre in Oliver!, playing six roles in The Phantom of the Opera for Andrew Lloyd Webber at His Majesty’s Theatre and has also appeared in numerous pantomimes.
Marking his 47th year in pantomime, ventriloquist and panto stalwart Dawson Chance and his friends will help keep the streets of Peking safe as the Chief of Police. The ventriloquist, comedian and actor has enjoyed a long and varied career, including appearing for the Royal Family by command at three Royal Variety Performances. His pantomime career has seen him appear on stages across the country, including the London Palladium and was last seen in Aladdin at the New Victoria Theatre in 1993 opposite the late Danny La Rue.
Produced once again by Qdos Entertainment, the world’s biggest pantomime producer and the team behind the annual New Victoria Theatre pantomime, Managing Director Michael Harrison said: “We’re delighted to have assembled such a talented cast for this year’s pantomime, following last year’s hugely successful production of Cinderella. This year’s show promises spectacular dance, hilarious comedy, plenty of music and a lamp-load of audience participation.”
Simon Thomsett, Theatre Director at the New Victoria Theatre, said “This is going to be one spectacular Christmas in Woking; we’re over the Aladdin moon to be working with last year’s production team for this year’s extravaganza which is already shaping up to be another record breaking pantomime season. One thing we can be sure of is that it’s going to be a lot of fun with Brendan Cole taking the lead and Bobby Davro, whose pantomime performances are legendary. We have a brilliant supporting cast to tell the classic tale of Aladdin and his magic lamp with Princess Jasmine as CBBC’s Mischa Eckersley. We can’t wait for this magic carpet ride of a seasonal treat.”
Featuring a wish-granting genie, an evil sorcerer and the timeless tale of the Twankey family, tickets are already on sale and selling fast, so audiences should hop aboard their flying carpets and head to the New Victoria Theatre to ensure they don’t miss this year’s must-see, genie-us Woking panto!
