FOR PETER PAN!
Mayflower Theatre have announced that Marti Pellow will lead the cast of this year’s spectacular family pantomime Peter Pan from Saturday 14 December playing the role of the evil Captain Hook opposite television and stage star Darren Day, Union J singer Jaymi Hensley and the hilarious Grumbleweeds.
The hugely talented performer Marti Pellow has achieved some of the UK’s biggest number-one singles, and has regularly featured in the UK charts throughout his career, both as a solo artist and as the frontman to Wet Wet Wet. The BRIT and Ivor Novello award-winning artist has released over twenty studio albums, including his recent hit album Mysterious. Marti has enjoyed over 25 hit singles and continues to sell out with his live concerts and arena shows. His recent live tours have included the sold out Mysterious Tour in 2017 and last year’s critically acclaimed celebration of 30 glorious years in the music industry, his Private Collection Tour. This summer he will be back on the road with his Summer of Love tour, culminating in an appearance at the world famous Glastonbury Festival.
In addition to his music, Marti has also starred in numerous high-profile theatre productions in the West End and on Broadway, including Chicago and the sold-out, award-winning musical Evita for which he was nominated for Best Actor at the WhatsOnStage Awards. He’s also had the privilege to work alongside Tim Rice in his concert film of Chess, and with Jeff Wayne in the international arena tour of War of The Worlds.
Marti has also starred in many record-breaking theatre tours, including The Witches of Eastwick, Blood Brothers and Jekyll & Hyde. Marti made his pantomime debut for Qdos Entertainment in the record-breaking 2015 Birmingham Hippodrome production of Aladdin, a role which he reprised in Glasgow, Bristol and Dartford, breaking Box Office records at every venue.
Actor, singer and television presenter Darren Day will play Captain Hook’s right hand man, Smee. Darren has had an extensive stage career having starred in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Grease, Summer Holiday and Godspell and numerous UK tours. He since went on to host You Bet! and Don’t Try This at Home for ITV and appeared in The Bill. In 2016 Darren came third in Celebrity Big Brother, released his album ‘This is the Moment’ and starred as Tick in the UK tour of Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Most recently Darren starred as the Teen Angel in Grease across the UK, joined the cast of Sky TV comedy Stella, and starred in Hollyoaks and Holby City.
Starring as Peter Pan, Union J star Jaymi Hensley makes his Mayflower debut. Having trained at the prestigious BRIT School for Performing Arts Jaymi joined the boyband Triple J in 2011, a popular trio who entered the ninth series of ITV’s The X Factor. With an additional bandmate the band reformed as Union J winning over the judges and audiences and coming fourth in the annual television talent competition. Since then Union J went on to great success releasing the popular hit singles Carry You, Tonight (We Live Forever) and You Got it All as well as two studio albums, their self-titled top ten album Union J and You Got It All – The Album. Jaymi reached the semi-finals of Celebrity Masterchef and was a judge on the CBBC talent search Got What It Takes. Jaymi made his pantomime debut for producers Qdos Entertainment in 2015 and is currently touring the UK in the title role of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Robin Colvill and James Brandon, better known as The Grumbleweeds, will star alongside them as the pirates. Regulars on the UK comedy scene since the 1960s across radio, television, theatre, cabaret and pantomime the ‘guv’nors’ of live comedy will bring their inimitable style of family entertainment, musical comedy and laugh-out-loud routines to the production.
Produced once again by Qdos Entertainment, Peter Pan will bring all the laughter, spectacle, special effects and festive magic audiences have come to expect each year from Southampton’s ultimate pantomime.
Speaking on this year’s casting, Managing Director Qdos Entertainment Michael Harrison said: “We’re delighted to have such a wealth of talent starring in Peter Pan this year, from the amazing vocals of Marti and Jaymi, to the hilarious Darren, Robin and James, it’s going to be a panto journey everyone will want to embark on this festive season.”

We can’t wait to welcome Darren Day back to the theatre who with Jaymi and the Grumbleweeds will ensure Peter Pan will be a hilarious family pantomime for Southampton audiences.
Packed to the crows-nest with laugh-out-loud comedy, spectacular special effects, music, action and, audiences shouldn’t leave it any longer to hook tickets to Mayflower’s high-flying pantomime adventure, Peter Pan, or they’ll be forced to walk the plank.
