New Wimbledon Theatre has announced that leading comedian, magician and television regular Pete Firman will join the previously-announced Paul Merton and lead the cast of this year’s magical family pantomime, Aladdin, from Saturday 8 December.
Most recently seen on The Next Great Magician (ITV1), Tonight at the London Palladium (ITV1), Let’s Sing and Dance for Comic Relief (BBC1) and Tommy Cooper Forever (ITV1), Pete burst onto the nation’s television screens in Channel 5’s ground breaking series Monkey Magic and later starred in BBC1′s prime-time Saturday night series The Magicians.
His unique blend of comedy and magic has seen him invited to perform on countless TV programmes, including The John Bishop Show (BBC1), The Sarah Millican Television Programme (BBC2), Edinburgh Comedy Fest Live (BBC3) and The Magic Show Story (ITV1) amongst many others.
His BBC Radio 4 documentary, Pete Firman’s World of Magic, aired to critical acclaim, he acted as magic consultant on the pre-West End revival of Five Guys Named Moe and his book, Tricks To Freak Out Your Friends, was so successful in the UK that it was also released in the USA. His live performances have taken him all over the world and his one-man shows have entertained sell-out audiences for ten years in a row at the Edinburgh Fringe and on several UK tours.
He’s been invited to perform at Montreal’s prestigious Just For Laughs Festival, Hollywood’s famous Magic Castle and London’s home of mystery, The Magic Circle. His other UK theatre productions include Champions of Magic, The All-Star Stand Up Tour and Sandi Toksvig’s Christmas Cracker. Last year saw him make his pantomime debut as Muddles in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs for producers Qdos Entertainment, for which he won rave reviews.
Pete will star as Wishee Washee, Aladdin’s somewhat hapless, but magically gifted brother and son to Have I Got News For You star Paul Merton who stars in the iconic pantomime role of Widow Twankey. The comedy pair will lead the cast of a pantomime packed with a lamp full of laughter, stunning music and dancing, plenty of audience participation and jaw-dropping special effects produced by the world’s biggest pantomime producer, Qdos Entertainment.
Qdos Entertainment’s managing director Michael Harrison said: “I’m so happy that we have tempted Pete back for a second year of panto fun with Qdos after such a successful and hilarious debut last year. Pete has an undeniable gift for magic and illusion, but is also hysterically funny and we can’t wait to see what kind of mayhem he’ll produce with Paul.”
Theatre Director at New Wimbledon Theatre Nick Parr added: “We caught Pete in panto last year and loved him! Aladdin is shaping-up to be the best show in town this Christmas.”
Featuring a wish-granting genie, an evil sorcerer and the timeless tale of the Twankey family audiences should hop aboard a flying carpet and fly to the Box Office to secure their tickets for this year’s must-see, genie-us family pantomime.
