Venue Cymru has scored a pantomime try with the news that Welsh rugby star Gareth Thomas will lead the cast of this year’s spectacular family pantomime at Venue Cymru, alongside Llandudno favourite John Evans and local comedian Andy Jones.
Bridgend-born Gareth Thomas, known as ‘Alfie’, was the first Welsh rugby player to reach 100 caps and is one of the most iconic and respected figures in world sport. Now retired, Gareth has gone on to enjoy a varied media career including appearances on Celebrity Big Brother, Dancing on Ice and regularly commentates for BT Sport and Sky. Aladdin mark’s Gareth’s third appearance in pantomime having spent the last two festive seasons starring in Cardiff winning rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, and will make Aladdin’s wishes come true as the Genie of the Lamp.
Making his 10th consecutive Venue Cymru pantomime appearance, Llandudno’s favourite funny man John Evans is back once again and will star as Aladdin’s hapless brother Wishee Washee. John’s clever comedy has taken him across the world, entertaining the British Forces on a number of occasions, as well as becoming a firm favourite with the world’s major cruise lines. His long-held affinity with Venue Cymru has delighted panto-goers every year, and this pantomime will be no different.
Joining them in the role of Widow Twankey is North Wales’ comedian Andy Jones, highly regarded as one of the UK’s top comics thanks to his zany humour and superb singing voice. Andy has worked extensively throughout the UK and abroad, appeared in a number of television programmes and advertisements and toured alongside the late Barry White, Engelbert Humperdinck and compered a royal gala show attended by Her Majesty the Queen and Prince Philip. Aladdin mark’s Andy’s thirty-fifth pantomime appearance having now appeared in every major UK venue alongside some of the industry’s most famous stars.
Aladdin is produced by Qdos Entertainment, the world’s biggest pantomime producer, and brings the spectacular comedy, music, dancing, scenery and special effects that the Llandudno audiences have come to expect each festive season.
Executive Producer of Aladdin Jonathan Kiley said “We are delighted to announce that Gareth, John and Andy will be starring in Aladdin, North Wales’ biggest and best family pantomime. Our must-see show will be full of laughter and music, plenty of audience participation and a spectacular flying carpet which will amaze audiences of all ages”.
Richard Jones from Venue Cymru said “Venue Cymru’s pantomime is such a very popular tradition for families around North Wales, and this casting news will make Aladdin an even greater treat this festive-time. Tickets are already selling very well, so I would encourage families to book early in order to get seats as close to the magic as possible!”
Follow Aladdin, and of course his mother Widow Twankey, on a spectacular adventure full of flying carpets, a wish-granting genie, an evil sorcerer and a lamp-full of laughs. Audiences should definitely make tickets to Aladdin one of their three wishes this Christmas.
