Hull New Theatre has announced additional star casting to join Sherrie Hewson on stage this Christmas in its spectacular pantomime Aladdin. David Witts, best known for his portrayal of heart-throb Joey Branning in EastEnders, will play the Genie of the Lamp. Also taking to the stage in this unmissable panto is the hilarious comedy duo The Grumbleweeds.
The Theatre has also announced that Keith Harris, who was to appear in this year’s panto, has withdrawn from the show in order to continue with his current hospital treatment.
David Witts has appeared in numerous theatre productions, including Wild Boys, The Wizard of Oz, Hairspray and playing true to form as The Prince in a production of Snow White. At the National Television Awards last year, David bagged the Best Newcomer prize.
The Grumbleweeds will provide comedy chaos and mayhem in the roles of the Chinese Policemen. This dynamic duo have been making people laugh all over the country and are popular faces on the comedy circuit.
“We are delighted to have such a superb cast for this years New Theatre pantomime”, says Jonathan Kiley, Executive Producer of Aladdin. “This production has got something for everyone including sensational musical numbers, lots of comedy and fabulous scenery and costumes. I have no doubt that this will be our most spectacular New Theatre panto yet. The magical adventure story of Aladdin, the magic lamp, the Genie, a flying carpet and, of course, his hilarious mother Widow Twankey, will be
brought to life in a show that will appeal to audiences of all ages.”
Aladdin is staged by Qdos Entertainment, the world’s largest pantomime producer and the company behind the New Theatre’s record-breaking production last year. If you ask your Genie for just one thing this year, make it a trip to see Aladdin!
Aladdin runs at the Hull New Theatre from Thursday 4 December 2014 until Sunday 4 January 2015. Tickets can be booked 01482 300 300 or online at www.hullcc.gov.uk/hullnewtheatre
