Stellar Line-Up For Theatre Royal Plymouth’s Giant 3D Pantomime!

Bobby Davro, John Challis, Chico & Jeffrey Holland

Theatre Royal Plymouth and Qdos Entertainment have announced a stellar line-up for Plymouth’s magical pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk, which runs from Friday 19 December 2014.

Heading the cast as Simple Simon will be comedy and television star Bobby Davro, who returns following his hugely-successful season as Will Scarlet in Robin Hood last Christmas. Bobby is well-known for his illustrious television career which has seen him present his own series Bobby Davro on the Box, Bobby’s Sketch Pad, TV Weekly, Public Enemy Number One, Rock With Laughter and Run the Risk, and host of 65 episodes of Winner Takes All. More recently Bobby has appeared in EastEnders playing the loveable rogue Vinnie Monks, has donned skates on Dancing on Ice, and last year appeared as a contestant on game-show Your Face Sounds Familiar.

John Challis will play the panto villain Fleshcreep. John’s theatre and television work spans fifty years, initially in theatre with companies including the Royal Shakespeare Company and National Theatre. His television career has seen him play Boycie in both Only Fools and Horses and then in his own spin-off series The Green Green Grass, which ran for four years.

Simple Simon’s brother Jack is played by Chico who became a household name appearing on the second series of the X Factor. Following the show his first single Chico Time knocked Madonna off the top of the charts giving him his first number one hit. The singer turned skating-star, captivating the nation with spectacular routines on ITV1’s Dancing on Ice, proving ever-popular with the voting public, and reaching the final.

Returning to panto for his 43rd season as panto dame will be Jeffrey Holland, who plays Dame Trot. Jeffrey is best-known for his portrayal of Spike in BBC TV's Hi-De-Hi, the stuffy footman James Twelvetrees in all four series of the hugely successful You Rang M’Lord? and more recently as Mr Parkin the stationmaster in Oh, Dr. Beeching!

Giant Blunderbore joins the cast in giant 3D, just one of the spectacular effects to be included in this year’s show.

Jack and The Beanstalk is produced by Qdos Entertainment, the world’s biggest pantomime producer, and the team behind the success of recent Theatre Royal Plymouth pantomimes including last year’s Robin Hood.

Jonathan Kiley, executive producer of Jack and the Beanstalk said “I am absolutely thrilled that we have been able to bring together such a sensational cast for this year’s show. The superb cast, combined with magical 3D effects, top-drawer production values, stunning sets and fabulous costumes will make this our biggest and best Plymouth pantomime yet!”.

Jack and the Beanstalk runs at Theatre Royal Plymouth from Friday 19 December 2014 to Saturday 17 January 2015. Tickets are available from theatreroyal.com/jack or 01752 267222.
