Comedian Joe Pasquale launches spellbinding pantomime spectacular
Grand Theatre panto stars Joe Pasquale, Ceri Dupree and Lucy Evans bring fairy-tale magic to the city!
Residents of Wolverhampton awoke from their slumber this morning to an early visit from the stars of the Grand Theatre’s spellbinding family pantomime Sleeping Beauty as Joe Pasquale, Ceri Dupree and Lucy Evans arrived at The Mount Hotel, Tettenhall to officially launch this year’s fairy-tale Christmas extravaganza.
The three stars of Sleeping Beauty posed for an enchanted photo-call complete with royal bower and spinning wheel in the hotel gardens before joining local VIPs, Business Club Members and Friends of the Grand Theatre in the fairy-tale surroundings of the Great Hall.
Comedian, national treasure and stand-out star of ITVs Dancing On Ice 2013, Joe Pasquale will lead an all-star cast in the role of Muddles this Christmas. Well-known for being one of the hardest-working and top-selling live comedians in British comedy today, Joe has been delighting audiences for more than 20 years with his live stand-up tours and infectious sense of fun. Along the way he’s voiced characters for Hollywood movies Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties and Horton Hears A Who!, toured in several major theatrical productions including Mel Brooks’ The Producers, been crowned King of the Jungle in ITV’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me out Of Here; appeared on five Royal Variety Performances and even learned to skate for ITV1’s Dancing On Ice – no mean feat! This summer Joe joins the cast of Spamalot in the West End as King Arthur.
This Christmas marks Joe’s first appearance in pantomime in Wolverhampton since 1996, when he starred alongside Michaela Strachan and Leslie Grantham in Peter Pan.
Making his glamorous Grand Theatre debut this December is international cabaret artist and variety legend Ceri Dupree in the role of Queen Passionella. Over his 30 year career in show business, Ceri’s unique talents (and fabulous frocks) have taken him through musical theatre, pantomime, summer season, television and cabaret. From Marilyn Monroe to Madonna; Shirley Bassey to Barbara Cartland; Tina Turner to Margaret Thatcher, Ceri’s impressive stage and TV career has seen him impersonate almost every major female star you can think of. This Christmas sees Ceri return to the role of Queen Passionella following celebrated panto performances in Birmingham, Plymouth, Nottingham and Cardiff.
Completing this year’s fairy-tale line-up in the role of Princess Beauty is star of stage and screen Lucy Evans. Since launching her career at the age of just eight years old, Lucy has gone on to enjoy success on both the West End and on screen but is perhaps best remembered for playing Lauren Wilson in ITV1’s Coronation Street. Other TV credits include Felicity Smart in the multi-award-winning television series Microsoap (BBC/Disney); Young Moll in The Fortunes and Misfortunes of Moll Flanders (Granada); Scarlet Veasey in The Stepfather (ITV); Angela Stevenson in Rocketman (BBC) and Julie Mayo in Mayo (BBC).
“We are absolutely thrilled to have secured Joe Pasquale, Ceri Dupree and Lucy Evans to star in this year’s Grand Theatre pantomime’’ said Michael Harrison, Managing Director of Qdos Entertainment’s Pantomime Division and Executive Producer of Sleeping Beauty. ‘’This production has got something for everyone including an abundance of laughs, sensational musical numbers and fabulous sets and costumes. Wolverhampton has never seen a pantomime on this scale before and I am sure the show will enchant audiences of all ages.”
“The fact that 2013 also marks Wolverhampton’s first ever ‘Relaxed Performance’ of pantomime makes this a particularly exciting year for the City and I am thrilled that this new initiative will allow audiences with additional needs the chance to share in the magic of pantomime for the first time”.
Sleeping Beauty is produced by Qdos Entertainment, the world’s largest pantomime producer and staged by the same team that presented last year’s much-loved production of Jack and the Beanstalk starring Sherrie Hewson & Keith Harris plus Orville and Cuddles the Monkey. Qdos Entertainment will stage 24 pantomimes around the UK this Christmas.
Featuring magnificent scenery, beautiful costumes, stunning sets and an abundance of comedy, this classic tale of love and enchantment will be magically brought to life in Wolverhampton’s biggest pantomime yet!
Sleeping Beauty runs at the Grand theatre from Saturday 7 December 2013 to Saturday 18 January 2014. Tickets can be booked at www.grandtheatre.co.uk or by calling the Box Office on 01902 42 92 12.
